HERE IS AN OVERVIEW OF OUR CURRICULUM
RELIGION
Religion is taught using Coming to Jesus published by Sadlier. The main focus is preparing students for Penance and Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Other lessons include the commandments, sacraments, parts of the Mass, seasons of the church year, various prayers, as well as the life of Jesus. Children are encouraged to become followers of Jesus and to make good choices.
LANGUAGE ARTS
We will continue to use the Superkids Program this year. We will expand on decoding, phonics, grammar, writing, spelling, and comprehension. Our reading selections will include both fiction and non-fiction and will be used to reinforce skills.
Cursive handwriting is introduced in Grade Two in January. Manuscript is also reviewed and used during the first half of the year.
MATH
The Math curriculum is taught using Progress in Mathematics published by Sadlier Oxford. The lessons not only review previously learned concepts but also build upon them to take students to the next level. Each concept has different strategies as well as leveled lessons to accommodate the needs of individual students and their learning styles. Word problems are also provided with each concept. Topics include addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, geometry, time money, place value, measurement, fractions, probability, and graphing.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The Social Studies curriculum will focus on the following topics-reading and making maps, geography and its effects on people, migrations and cultures, countries and governments, and resources and choices. Trade books as well as online activities will be used to enhance these topics.
SCIENCE
The Science curriculum will focus on the following topics-matter and its interactions, ecosystems, diversity of living things in each of a variety of different habitats, Earth events and how they occur, and Earth’s systems.
GRADING SYSTEM
